Once a year, Design et al Magazine recognizes, through several design competitions, the very best of talent and achievement in the fields of interior design, architecture, yacht, aviation and product design from around the world. This year, we were thrilled to be shortlisted in two categories, Chair and Sofa. Design et al’s awards competition are unique in that there are no judges. Instead, Design et al subscribers and design enthusiasts from around the globe cast votes online. Votes are then verified and tallied. Design et al also hosts the International Design Awards, Yacht & Aviation, the International Design Awards Design & Architecture, the International Design Awards Hotel & Property Awards, the International Design Awards Super Yacht Design Awards and the International Design Awards, Asia Pacific. Our co-founders/designers, Khai Mai and Tina Nicole traveled to London to attend the black-tie Gala in hopes of winning an award. Our Bonn Sofa and Architecte Chair were each nominated for an award. The Gala was held September 25, 2015 at the Hurlingham Club.
We were so thrilled that our Bonn sofa, designed by Tina Nicole, won the International Product Design Award (IPDA) for the SOFA category. Our Bonn sofa, one of our best sellers, is a modern, architecturally inspired design with cantilevered legs and a square chassis  that floats above the floor. Adding visual interest is the unusual side by side pairing of a box seat cushion and knife-edge seat cushion, along with the combination of a high-low back cushion treatment for this generous, deep seating style.
We lost to Linley London for the chair award, admittedly a gorgeous design and a worthy opponent  (see details on Viscount David Linley, Linley London, Queen Elizabeth II nephew and Chairman of auction house Christie’s UK below)
The Gala was an extraordinary event. We arrived by private car where we were received by a champagne reception. We mingled and met designers not only from Europe, but also from the island of Crete, Russia, South Africa, China and Iceland. Being paired with globally-recognized, massive design talent like Pierre Frey, Paris, Karim Rashid and Lord Linley, Linley London was the highlight of our night. “To be recognized by our peers and by other design enthusiasts in this fashion was especially gratifying. It inspires us to continue pushing the envelope in our work.” says Tina Nicole. We were excited to meet the founder and intellect behind Design et al and host of all of the awards ceremonies, Ms. Joanne Beedles, (pictured below, right).
