My feet were killing me. So, I ordered a pair of shoes from a beloved British brand with super comfy platforms. When the box arrived, I was excited, until I opened it and found the wrong size. I printed the return label, repackaged everything, drove to the post office, and waited. The replacement arrived. Same wrong size. I contacted them again. They sent another pair. Now I am managing three boxes and two return labels and still do not have shoes that fit.

Here is what that experience made me think about: when something is made for you, sized for you, built for the specific dimensions of your life, none of that happens. You open the box and it fits. That is the standard we have held at Nathan Anthony since the beginning. Every piece is made to order, to the specifications of one project, one room, one client. No guessing. No returns. No second trips to the post office.

The Anchor Piece Plus

At Nathan Anthony, we have always made the piece that anchors the room. The sofa where the conversation runs long, the sectional where everyone finds their spot, the chair that becomes someone’s favorite without anyone deciding it. That is what Nathan Anthony has always been about: not furniture, but the feeling of being exactly where you want to be. The Case Goods Capsule Collection is an extension of that same instinct. Integrated Storage Solution

It is exciting to see designers and fans already responding to this pairing. The Miramar nightstands finished to match the Pilar bed. Shelving custom built directly into the back of a curved Relax sectional, or running the length of a Soft sectional so the sofa and the storage are one continuous piece. That kind of integration is not something you can source from two different vendors. It requires a single maker who controls both. That is what Nathan Anthony does now, and honestly, it is the most exciting thing we have built.

Built without waste

Made-to-order also means we do not create inventory that sits waiting. We manufacture precisely what is needed, when it is needed, reducing waste at every stage of production. Recently, I switched to a shampoo made specifically for my hair. It’s not for hair “like” mine. It’s for mine (with my name on the bottle!). What a difference! That is what a deliberate, personalized choice delivers. It is the same standard I have always held for the furniture we make at Nathan Anthony. Every piece chosen with intention, specified precisely, and built for exactly one project.

Made-to-Order Deliberate Choices

Furniture for your space deserves the same deliberate consideration as the products you choose for yourself. The Destino lounge and the Radly sectional are good examples of what that looks like in practice. On Destino, it is the wood and metal base combo, a detail that grounds the piece and gives it an architectural presence without competing with the room. On Radly, it is the sculptural ledge on the frame, a quiet distinction that separates it from every other sectional in its category.

These are not accidents. They are the result of deliberate choices made at the design stage, decisions that shape the entire space, not just occupy it. That attention is what makes a piece refined, elevated, and genuinely beautiful. When you commit to that level of intention at every stage, the result is something a client can feel the moment they walk into the room.

Seat height, cushion fill, frame dimension, material, finish: each decision is made before we begin. Our Custom Design Concierge™ team is part of that conversation from the start. When a designer calls with an unusual floor plan or a client who needs something that does not exist in any catalog, that is exactly where we want to be. Deliberate choices, made together, produce results that last.

First, made-to-order allows us to tailor each piece specifically to the client’s needs. From cushion fill and seat height to stitching details and finish selections, every aspect of a piece is chosen before we begin manufacturing. This process ensures that what we create matches the designer’s vision exactly.

Second, custom orders give our upholstery artisans the time and space to focus on the details. Every seam is pressed and straightened by hand. Patterns are aligned and matched with intention. Threads are clipped, materials are steamed, and tools are used to finesse the final result. When you mass-produce, speed becomes the priority.
